Do you want an easy crochet project? Then crocheting a Barbie blanket is perfect! It’s small, it’s square and if the result isn’t perfect I bet Barbie won’t complain 🙂

This pattern is super easy as you will only need to know how to crochet chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet.

We will be using more than one color, but only one at a time and all color changes will happen at the beginning of a new row. This means that you can concentrate entirely on the row you’re working on, with no need to think of which yarn to use other than between rows.

And, if you like you can absolutely work the entire Barbie blanket in one color too!

What do you need to get started?

I bet you probably already have some yarn in your stash that you can use for this project. You won’t need much for each stripe! But if you need to get some new supplies I have browsed Amazon to find some suitable yarn and hooks for you.

You will need a crochet hook in US size D / 3,25 mm. I use this aluminum hook from Boye, but I am wishing for these led-light ones. They seem really smart, I would like to try them out sometime!

Yarn is also needed of course! I used scraps of cotton 8/4 yarn, that’s my favorite type of yarn for crocheting and I also use it for knitting cute summer tops for my little ones.

If you’re out of cotton yarn scraps this organic cotton 8/4 yarn sells at a reasonable price and the colors are nice too!

You will also need a wool needle and a pair of scissors.

The possibilities are endless!

You can make this blanket striped in the colors of the rainbow. Or you could make it in only one color. Let your scraps or design skills decide!

I choose to do my stripes like this: Alternate two rows of double crochet in the darker pink color, and two rows of single crochet in the lighter pink.

Because I’m planning on adding crochet edging to this blanket later (and because I’m a bit lazy…) I carried the yarn up along the side of the blanket instead of cutting it after each stripe.

I don’t like to weave in more ends than necessary, and the edging will cover the yarn strands.
